My beautiful village was erected in the XIII century on a rocky piton surrounded with a circular small valley and woody hills.
It is located about 5 ks away from the Route Nationale 124 Auch-Mont de Marsan-Bayonne.
AUCH, capital city of Gascony is 16 ks away.
The story of my village.
BIRAN has got its name from a proud manor house set up on top of a rocky piton.
In 1249, in TOULOUSE, Arnaud de Biran took the oath of new vassals allied to the Kingdom of France after the last Earl of Toulouse death in name of the Countess of Astarac and her son Géraud.
In 1314, the baronies of Biran and Ordan, properties of the Caillavet family, became dependencies to the Pardiac family represented by the Earl Arnaud-Gulhem IV by means of marriage.
In 1318, the Earl Arnaud-Guilhem renewed the customs of theses two baronies. When the Duke of Neemours, Earl of Pardiac, died the whole domain became property of the Lord of Bouchage, favourite of Louis XI.
An old fortified gate is the access to the only street of Biran. It has a unique XIII century house. On top of the rock, on the western side of the village, you can see a tall square tower which is a remnant of the stronghold probably demolished in 1630.
The parish church was built in the upper part of the village in the XVII century. One of its walls was entirely stone carved into a beautiful reredos.
On your way to the Mas of Biran XII century roman church not far away from the Baïse river you can see the well preserved Gallo-Roman pile called La Tourraque de Lacouture.
